No Way Up The Cimarron Legacy Mary Connealy 9780764211812 Books Reviews
I love Mary Connealy books but this one really got cumbersome the last 1/3 of the book with all the descriptions of the passageways in the mesas. Enough already. Just not up to her usual writing. I do plan to continue reading her books in the hope she reverts to her old style.
Mary's books are very enjoyable. Transported to New Mexico and continuing threads with some of her earlier books. I love that. Keeping the story going but not tied so much you can't enjoy of this is your first book.
Interesting ties to the Pueblo people, the Mexican land grab and the challenges of those early years of statehood.
I loved the story of Sadie and Heath. She looks past her standing as a land owner to see the quality man Heath is. I found myself cheering for them against the protests of her over protective brothers.
I look forward to the next book to see what happens next with these families
Mary Connelly is one of my favorite authors. She always has a great element of humor added in to make an otherwise more serious problem a bit lighter. I love the little bit of craziness that her characters thought musings lend to the tale. Often find myself chuckling out loud as I read, between wondering about some characters and liking most of the rest.
Her Montana Marriages Trilogy, is by far my absolute most favorite. I laughed through all three books. Wonderful fun!
What I liked
If you’ve ever read a book by Mary Connealy then you know this lady’s humor is strewn throughout every novel she pens, and No Way Up is no exception. It is laced with odd-ball comments and hilarious narrative. Along with plenty of LOL moments, No Way Up is chalked full of mystery, romance, and danger in a setting I very much enjoy, the Old West. Characters are varied, historical content is rich and accurate, and the setting—the Mesa Vera area of modern day New Mexico—is described beautifully with mesas, desert mountains, and a reminisce of the ancient people of the land.
What I did not care for
Since no author has ever written a flawless book it is necessary to point out that No Way Up has flaws, well maybe one or two. At times the details of the mystery were difficult to keep track of and some of the dialogue is lengthy. I read Mary’s free novella, the Boden Birthright, which precedes this book, and found the links between the two books deepened the mystery.
Why you should read this book
You should read this book because it is a gritty, fun, romance set with moral tones and excitement at every turn of the page. If you love history, nature, westerns, family, and mystery (or you’ve read Mary’s Kincaid Brides Series) then No Way Up belongs in your to-read pile.
I loved this first book in the Cimarron Legacy series by Mary Connealy. The characters were engaging and I especially liked Heath and Sadie and figuring out how those two could possibly get together with all the obstacles against them. The introduction of Angie was a great teaser for the next book. There was plenty of suspense in the book and a bit of a mystery, too. The author's trademark humor had me laughing out loud at times. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Trouble strikes the Cimarron Ranch when the owner is badly injured in an avalanche. He demands his three children return home and work together for a year on the land he loves, or else forfeit their inheritance. Sadie balks at the command but doesn't have the heart to go against her father.
Difficulties continue to arise and hired hand, Heath Kincaid, is thrown in the midst of them with the three siblings. Danger lurks and he'll do whatever he can to protect the woman he has had his eye on for quite some time. Only problem is, she hasn't noticed him. Will she come to think of him as more than just a protector?
Mary Connealy has a great start to the Cimarron Legacy Series with No Way Up. I found this book difficult to put down. It's one you'll definitely want to read.

I signed on early with Netgalley.com to get the opportunity to read and review Mary's latest adventure/laugh riot cowboy romance. Love her books. Unfortunately, there were technical issues and although I was able to download the e-book, pages were missing. A LOT of pages. This was a prerelease file so I decided if I wanted to read the story and not guess at what 5 missing pages had said, I should buy the eBook. So I did. BEST choice ever. Supported the author's sales AND I got a perfect file. YES!!
So, how did I like the Cimarron Ranch, you ask? It was awesome. Mary weaves her settings flawlessly. It's great to see the appearance of Heath Kincaid and follow his story arc not only to romance, but love and understanding in several different relationships. The story has depth and heart that isn't always obvious in the moment because your too busy slapping your knee with laughter, but that heart and strength is what proves them all wrong when they're sure there is No Way Up.
Loved it and the prequel The Boden Birthright. Great new adventure for long time Connealy fans or for those just discovering her.
